Terms of Use
Last updated: 17 October 2026. By using Maplequarry (maplequarry.com), you agree to the terms below.
What Maplequarry is
Maplequarry is an independent, editorially-written informational guide to aurora viewing across four Canadian regions — Yellowknife (NWT), Churchill (MB), Whitehorse (YT) and Iqaluit (NU) — together with a catalogue of hotels across Canada. It is not a travel agency, not a booking or reservation service, and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any airline, rail operator, tour company, hotel, or government tourism authority named or referenced on this site.
The Maplequarry likelihood score is an estimate, not a guarantee
The score, hour-by-hour chamber view, and month-by-month comparisons on this site are illustrative estimates built from publicly known seasonal daylight patterns and each region’s typical geomagnetic exposure. They do not draw on live satellite, magnetometer, or weather data, and they are not a substitute for a real-time forecast close to your travel dates. Aurora borealis visibility is inherently unpredictable and depends on solar activity, weather, and local conditions that cannot be forecast months in advance. Nothing on this site guarantees that you will see the aurora borealis on any specific date, in any specific location, regardless of the score shown.
Travel, safety, and cold-weather information
Practical information on this site — including cold-weather safety figures, transportation details, and packing guidance — is provided for general planning purposes and sourced from public references at the time of writing. Conditions, schedules, operators, and prices change. Always verify current conditions, transportation schedules, and safety guidance with official sources (such as Environment Canada, your transportation provider, or a local guide) before and during travel, particularly in remote or extreme-cold locations such as Churchill.
No professional advice
Nothing on this site constitutes medical, safety, or professional travel advice. Cold-weather exposure carries real risk, including frostbite and hypothermia; use the information here alongside, not instead of, official safety guidance and your own judgment.
External links
This site links to third-party resources, including NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center and Aurorasaurus, for reference. We do not control and are not responsible for the content or availability of external sites.
The hotel catalogue
The catalogue lists hotels across Canada for information only. Maplequarry is not a booking service: we do not take reservations or payments, we do not show live prices or availability, and we do not guarantee that any hotel has rooms. Any reservation is a contract between you and the hotel, on the hotel’s terms; we are not a party to it and are not responsible for rates, taxes, fees, cancellation rules or the quality of your stay.
Hotel descriptions, facilities, room types, coordinates, contact details and photos are supplied by third parties, mainly the Hotelbeds catalogue, in English. They can be incomplete or out of date, and star categories, occupancy and distances are indicative. Confirm anything that matters with the hotel before you rely on it. Being listed does not mean a hotel pays us, and a hotel being near northern-lights country does not mean you will see the aurora from it.
Trademarks and photos
Hotel, brand and company names, logos and photos belong to their owners and are used only to identify the properties described. Maplequarry is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any hotel or hotel brand.
Acceptable use
You may use the site for personal, non-commercial planning. Do not copy it in bulk, scrape it, disrupt it or try to gain unauthorised access to it. The text, layout and design of Maplequarry are protected by copyright; you may quote short extracts with a link back to the page.
Limitation of liability
Maplequarry is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, expense, or damage arising from reliance on information provided on this site, including a trip planned around a likelihood score that does not result in an aurora sighting.
